Trivium Connect

Trivium Charter School offers a number of options for teaching your child math and language arts on your non-ACE days.

Connect is an exciting new opportunity for your kids to have a classroom learning experience in the comfort of their own home. The expert teacher, collaboration, discussion, learning, and practice are all provided by Connect.

How it Works

Every non-ACE day, your student will attend a live class with a teacher for each subject they enroll in. The classes are conducted using Adobe Connect, which allows for students to participate in the sessions by speaking, typing, drawing, sharing their screen, interacting with what the teacher shares, etc. These tools will be used to their best capacity to engage students and make them active participants in their learning.  Our goal is make this program as high quality as our ACE days.

For Connect math students, once a week there will be an additional opportunity for targeted help with smaller groups of students to provide any additional help they might need.  These times are starred in the chart below.

The Connect home page, powered by Schoology which you may be familiar with from last year, provides you with everything from the links to the Connect sessions and their recordings , links to practice, assignments, activities, assessments, and gradebooks. so you can easily access your child’s materials.

The teachers will have an office hour time every morning where you or your student can log in and ask questions about their homework - and there will be homework.

Remember that your students will be getting a quality math and language arts curriculum in 3 days a week. We will provide your child with everything they need to succeed, but the live class sessions are just a part of a complete math or language arts education. Students need time to practice, to struggle, to write, to erase and start over, and finally to submit their work for another learning opportunity.

What we Offer

For school year 2017-2018 Trivium Connect is offering the following courses:

  • Middle School Math A (6th/7th grade)
  • Middle School Math B (7th/8th grade)
  • Pre-Algebra (8th/9th grade)
  • Algebra 1
  • Algebra 2
  • Geometry
  • Literature/Reading (4th/5th) (one semester)
  • Writing (4th/5th)   (one semester)
  • Middle School English A (6th/7th grade)
  • Middle School English B (7th/8th grade)

Courses will cover state standards, and will tie in to the Trivium year of study wherever appropriate and possible to bring a connection to the students’ learning they are experiencing at their ACE days.

Connect Math will be using Carnegie Learning student activity books, which students will write in and use during their Connect sessions and for practice on their own. In addition, students will have a powerful “cognitive tutor” in the form of Mathia - Carnegie’s proven software component that guides students through problem solving as part of their weekly homework. Quizzes and tests will be completed online or at the centers on ACE days.

Connect English will pull from various resources including Moving Beyond the Page for a literature-based study of language arts. The middle school will offer a comprehensive language arts program, including vocabulary, reading comprehension, literary response and analysis, writing, and grammar. The elementary English course will have a focus on literature for the first semester and focus on writing for the second semester, but will also incorporate some other components of language arts.

Connect will strive for the same learner outcomes you have come to expect from Trivium Charter School.
